Women Working in Alternative Energy Teleconference

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Women’s Bureau is pleased to host a series of teleconferences for workforce practitioners, designed to offer information and an exchange of ideas to better connect women with green jobs and green jobs training. This area of workforce development is an important part of preparing our nation to be competitive in the new economy. The teleconferences are geared towards workforce professionals, career advisors, and educators, although interested women are welcome to participate as well.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, University of California - Davis, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will be hosting a technical exchange on the topic of Urban Wind and Built-environment Wind Turbines (BWTs).

This event will be an opportunity to share technical experience on modeling urban wind resources and practical experiences with BWTs.

The featured speaker will be Sander Mertens, author of "Wind Energy in the Built Environment" among other related research publications.

Utah new residential buildings must comply with the provisions of the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

This full-day session will provide attendees with an in-depth view of the residential provisions of the International Residential (IRC) Code Chapter 11 and the 2006 IECC Chapter 4.

This session will set the stage for energy codes and energy efficiency in buildings in general through a review of the basic science of how a building works, including a through discussion of heat transfer and moisture control.
