Ofa Matagi is long time community activist and advocate for equality. She is a strong proponent of civic engagement and actively supports efforts that empower women to run for elected office. She is also a former candidate of the Utah House of Representatives HD33 in West Valley City. In addition, one of the newest Planning Commissioners for Salt Lake County Planning Commission as well as Chair of the AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Democratic Caucus.
She has served the last five years as a Board Member of UPICEC (The Utah Pacific Islander Civic Engagement Coalition), and a two year Board of Trustee at the Tracy Aviary. Additionally, serving on the YWCA of Utah’s Young Women’s Leadership Council for 7 years.
Prior to starting courses at the University of Utah’s Master in Public Administration program, Ofa’s undergraduate studies focused on Political Science & Ethnic Studies. She has worked as an Appeals Specialist and Administrative Paralegal in Social Security Law for seven years. Additionally, a Financial Aid Advisor at the University of Utah for two years and most recently as an Estate Planning Paralegal for the multi service law firm, Pearson Butler. She and her husband, Sean Matagi firmly believe in making an impact in the communities they are from and serve but also within the earth we are all fortunate to inhabit.
