Utah Clean Energy Applauds Ivory Homes’ Announcement to Build 100% Energy Star Homes and Install Dual Fuel Heat Pumps
Accounting for about 35% of U.S. energy-related CO2 emissions, reducing pollution from our homes and buildings is a cornerstone of a healthy climate and clean air. Utah Clean Energy applauds Ivory Homes for their recent announcement to meet Energy Star building standards and install heat pumps in the majority of their homes. This announcement builds on previous innovations by Ivory Homes, including adding 220/240-volt outlets for electric vehicle charging as a standard feature. Through these commitments, Ivory Homes is taking a leading role in reducing carbon pollution, and as Utah’s largest builder, they are helping to set a higher bar for the quality and efficiency of homes in Utah. This a huge step forward on the path toward improved energy efficiency, cleaner air, and low-emission homes.
There has never been a better time to build electric and energy efficient homes. Expanded federal tax credits are now available to builders and developers who build homes that are certified to meet Energy Star and Zero Energy Ready Home certifications. Notably, Utah’s residential energy code is not going to be updated by lawmakers during the current Legislative Session. Without an updated code, we need builders like Ivory Homes to take the initiative and provide higher quality, energy efficient and low-emission homes for Utah families. We hope to see many other residential developers in Utah follow Ivory Homes’ example.
